Frequently Asked
Questions
This page contains answers to common questions
about Silky Saws, along with some tips and tricks that you have found useful and
presented here as questions.
Can these blades be sharpened?
The short answer is no. Here is the explanation.
The blades are made of very high quality Japanese steel and
are heat tempered on the cutting edges for long lasting
service. They were not designed to be sharpened but instead
to keep the edge sharper much longer than traditional
blades.
Where can I buy Silky Saws?
Silky products can be purchased at any of the
dealers listed on the
Dealer Locator page of
this site.
Do Silky Saws cut only on the pull stroke?
Y
es, they cut only on the pull stroke and they
need a very little pressure to cut efficiently. The kerf of the blade is such that it bites into
the wood as it's pulled across without extra
pressure from the user. Remember, extra pressure
and wrenching the saw will break your blades!
How should I clean the blade when it's covered in
resin?
After use
the blades do collect tree sap and the easiest way our
customers have found to clean them is to spray the blades
with Easy-Off, oven cleaner. Leave on for 10 minutes, brush
with a toothbrush, wash, dry and spray with WD-40. Or just use soap and water or mild cleaner, do not use
solvent.
Are replacement parts available?
Yes, we have replacement blades for all saws
plus other assorted hardware like attachment
bolts, push buttons, friction locks, and
replacement sections for the pole saws.
